vigata

दुःखेष्वनुद्विग्नमनाः सुखेषु विगतस्पृहः

vigata-spṛihaḥ — without craving

Unshaken in sorrow, without craving in pleasure, free of attachment, fear and anger — such a one is called a sage, steady in wisdom.

मयि सर्वाणि कर्माणि संन्यस्याध्यात्मचेतसा

vigata-jvaraḥ — without mental fever

Surrendering all your actions to me, your thoughts resting on what is highest, free of longing and free of “mine” — fight.

स्पर्शान्कृत्वा बहिर्बाह्यांश्चक्षुश्चैवान्तरे भ्रुवोः

vigata — free

Keeping outward contacts outside, the gaze between the brows, the outgoing and incoming breaths made even,

यतेन्द्रियमनोबुद्धिर्मुनिर्मोक्षपरायणः

vigata — discarded

senses, mind and understanding restrained, intent on release, free of longing, fear and anger — such a sage is always free.

प्रशान्तात्मा विगतभीर्ब्रह्मचारिव्रते स्थितः

vigata-bhīḥ — fearless

serene, fearless, holding to the vow of continence, mind restrained and turned on me — so one should sit, intent on me as the goal.

युञ्जन्नेवं सदाऽऽत्मानं योगी विगतकल्मषः

vigata — freed from

Keeping the self constantly so joined, freed of faults, the practitioner easily reaches the boundless happiness of touching Brahman.

असक्तबुद्धिः सर्वत्र जितात्मा विगतस्पृहः

vigata-spṛihaḥ — free from desires

One whose understanding is unattached everywhere, who has mastered themselves and is free of longing, reaches by renunciation the highest state beyond action.
