एवमुक्तो हृषीकेशो गुडाकेशेन भारत
sañjayaḥ uvācha — Sanjay said
Spoken to in this way by Arjuna, Krishna brought that magnificent chariot to a stand between the two armies,
- 1.47
एवमुक्त्वाऽर्जुनः संख्ये रथोपस्थ उपाविशत्
sañjayaḥ uvācha — Sanjay said
Having said this, Arjuna sat down on the floor of the chariot in the middle of the battle, let his bow and arrows fall, and his mind was overcome with grief.

तं तथा कृपयाऽविष्टमश्रुपूर्णाकुलेक्षणम्
sañjayaḥ uvācha — Sanjay said
To him in that state — overcome with pity, his eyes brimming and troubled, sunk in grief — Krishna spoke these words.

एवमुक्त्वा हृषीकेशं गुडाकेशः परन्तप

Having spoken this way to Krishna, Arjuna said, “I will not fight,” and fell silent.

Having spoken thus, O king, the great lord of yoga then showed to Arjuna his highest form as ruler —

Hearing these words of Krishna, Arjuna joined his palms, trembling, bowed down, and spoke again — stammering, in great fear.

इत्यर्जुनं वासुदेवस्तथोक्त्वा स्वकं रूपं दर्शयामास भूयः

Having said this to Arjuna, Krishna showed again his own form, and consoled the frightened one, taking on once more his gentle shape.

इत्यहं वासुदेवस्य पार्थस्य च महात्मनः
sañjayaḥ uvācha — Sanjay said
So I have heard this wonderful dialogue between Krishna and the great-souled Arjuna, and my hair stands on end.
