kriyāḥ

यामिमां पुष्पितां वाचं प्रवदन्त्यविपश्चितः

kriyā-viśheṣha — pompous ritualistic ceremonies

Those of small understanding speak flowery words, delighting in the letter of the scriptures, and say there is nothing more —

कामात्मानः स्वर्गपरा जन्मकर्मफलप्रदाम्

kriyā-viśeṣa — pompous ceremonies

driven by desire, aiming at higher worlds, promising good birth as the fruit of action, full of elaborate rites for enjoyment and power.

तत्रैकाग्रं मनः कृत्वा यतचित्तेन्द्रियक्रियः

kriyaḥ — activities

there, making the mind one-pointed, restraining the movements of mind and senses, seated, one should practise yoga for the purifying of the self.

तस्मादोमित्युदाहृत्य यज्ञदानतपःक्रियाः

kriyāḥ — performing

So those who speak of Brahman always begin the acts of offering, giving and austerity with the utterance of Om, as the scriptures direct.

तदित्यनभिसन्धाय फलं यज्ञतपःक्रियाः

kriyāḥ — acts

With Tat, and without desiring the fruit, the various acts of offering, austerity and giving are performed by those who seek release.

धृत्या यया धारयते मनःप्राणेन्द्रियक्रियाः

kriyāḥ — activities

The steadiness by which one holds the movements of mind, breath and senses, unwavering through practice, is of clarity.
