6.12 Making the mind one-pointed Krishna speaks
तत्रैकाग्रं मनः कृत्वा यतचित्तेन्द्रियक्रियः
उपविश्यासने युञ्ज्याद्योगमात्मविशुद्धये
tatraikāgraṁ manaḥ kṛitvā yata-chittendriya-kriyaḥ
upaviśhyāsane yuñjyād yogam ātma-viśhuddhaye
there, making the mind one-pointed, restraining the movements of mind and senses, seated, one should practise yoga for the purifying of the self.
Explanation
One-pointed, and for a stated purpose.
Making the mind single, restraining the movements of mind and senses — for ātma-viśuddhi, the purifying of the self.
Not for visions, not for powers, not for calm. The same purpose 5.11 gave to action, which quietly makes sitting and working two means to one end.
