  1. 7.17

    तेषां ज्ञानी नित्ययुक्त एकभक्ितर्विशिष्यते

    priyaḥ — very dear

    Of these, the one who knows — always steady, devoted to the one thing — stands out. I am dear to that person, and that person is dear to me.

    समोऽहं सर्वभूतेषु न मे द्वेष्योऽस्ति न प्रियः

    priyaḥ — dear

    I am the same in all beings. No one is hateful to me and no one dear. But those who worship me with devotion are in me, and I am in them.

    तस्मात्प्रणम्य प्रणिधाय कायं प्रसादये त्वामहमीशमीड्यम्

    priyaḥ — a lover

    So I bow down, I prostrate my body, and I ask your grace, lord worthy of worship. As a father bears with a son, a friend with a friend, a lover with the beloved — bear with me.

    सन्तुष्टः सततं योगी यतात्मा दृढनिश्चयः

    priyaḥ — very dear

    content, self-governed, firm in resolve, always joined, with mind and understanding given to me — such a devoted one is dear to me.

    यस्मान्नोद्विजते लोको लोकान्नोद्विजते च यः

    priyaḥ — very dear

    One by whom the world is not disturbed and who is not disturbed by the world, free of elation, impatience, fear and agitation — that one is dear to me.

    अनपेक्षः शुचिर्दक्ष उदासीनो गतव्यथः

    priyaḥ — very dear

    Expecting nothing, clean, capable, untroubled, without distress, who has given up every undertaking that grasps — such a devoted one is dear to me.

  7. 12.17

    यो न हृष्यति न द्वेष्टि न शोचति न काङ्क्षति

    priyaḥ — very dear

    One who neither exults nor hates, neither grieves nor craves, who has let go of both the pleasant and the unpleasant — that one is dear to me.

  8. 12.19

    तुल्यनिन्दास्तुतिर्मौनी सन्तुष्टो येनकेनचित्

    priyaḥ — very dear

    the same under blame and praise, quiet, content with whatever comes, without a fixed dwelling, steady in mind — such a devoted person is dear to me.

  9. 12.20

    ये तु धर्म्यामृतमिदं यथोक्तं पर्युपासते

    priyāḥ — dear

    And those who take up this nectar of what is right, as I have declared it, with faith and taking me as the highest — those devoted ones are very dear to me.

    आहारस्त्वपि सर्वस्य त्रिविधो भवति प्रियः

    Even the food each person likes is of three kinds — and so are offering, austerity and giving. Hear how they differ.

    Fix your mind on me, be devoted to me, make your offering to me, bow to me. I promise you truly, for you are dear to me: you will come to me.
