स एवायं मया तेऽद्य योगः प्रोक्तः पुरातनः

This same ancient yoga I declare to you today, because you are devoted to me and my friend — and because it is the deepest of secrets.

अपि चेदसि पापेभ्यः सर्वेभ्यः पापकृत्तमः
asi — you are
Even if you were the very worst of all who do wrong, you would cross the whole of it on the boat of knowledge.

अधियज्ञः कथं कोऽत्र देहेऽस्मिन्मधुसूदन

How is the lord of offerings present in this body, and who is it? And how are you to be known at the moment of departure by those who are restrained?

त्वमादिदेवः पुरुषः पुराण स्त्वमस्य विश्वस्य परं निधानम्
asi — you are
You are the first of gods, the ancient person, the ultimate resting place of this world; the knower and the known, and the highest dwelling. By you this world is pervaded, you of endless form.

नमः पुरस्तादथ पृष्ठतस्ते नमोऽस्तु ते सर्वत एव सर्व
asi — (you) are
I bow to you from the front and from behind; I bow to you on every side, you who are all. Of endless strength and measureless might, you pervade everything, and so you are all.
- 11.42
यच्चावहासार्थमसत्कृतोऽसि विहारशय्यासनभोजनेषु
asi — you were
and for whatever disrespect I showed you in jest, at play or at rest, sitting or eating, alone or in company — for all that I ask your forgiveness, immeasurable one.
- 11.43
पितासि लोकस्य चराचरस्य त्वमस्य पूज्यश्च गुरुर्गरीयान्
asi — you are
You are the father of this world, of what moves and what does not. You are its teacher, and worthy of its worship, and greater than any. There is nothing like you; how could anything be greater, you of matchless might in the three worlds?

नाहं वेदैर्न तपसा न दानेन न चेज्यया
asi — you are
Not by the Vedas, not by austerity, not by giving, not by worship can I be seen as you have seen me.

अभ्यासेऽप्यसमर्थोऽसि मत्कर्मपरमो भव
asi — you
If you are unable even to practise, then make my work your highest aim. Doing what is to be done for my sake, you will reach perfection.

अथैतदप्यशक्तोऽसि कर्तुं मद्योगमाश्रितः
asi — you are
And if you cannot manage even this, then take refuge in being joined to me, and give up the fruit of all action, self-restrained.

दैवी सम्पद्विमोक्षाय निबन्धायासुरी मता

The divine nature leads toward release; the other binds. Do not grieve, son of Pandu: you are born to the divine.

Fix your mind on me, be devoted to me, make your offering to me, bow to me. I promise you truly, for you are dear to me: you will come to me.
