11.42 At play, at rest, at meals Arjuna speaks
यच्चावहासार्थमसत्कृतोऽसि विहारशय्यासनभोजनेषु
एकोऽथवाप्यच्युत तत्समक्षं तत्क्षामये त्वामहमप्रमेयम्
yach chāvahāsārtham asat-kṛito ’si
vihāra-śhayyāsana-bhojaneṣhu
eko ’tha vāpy achyuta tat-samakṣhaṁ
tat kṣhāmaye tvām aham aprameyam
and for whatever disrespect I showed you in jest, at play or at rest, sitting or eating, alone or in company — for all that I ask your forgiveness, immeasurable one.
Explanation
At play, at rest, at meals.
In jest, sitting or eating, alone or in company — for all that, forgiveness.
The list is a portrait of a friendship, itemised. Nothing in the Gita establishes more economically what these two were to each other before this chapter began.
