    योत्स्यमानानवेक्षेऽहं य एतेऽत्र समागताः

    yuddhe — in the fight

    I want to look at those gathered here to fight, come to do the bidding of Dhritarashtra's ill-minded son.

    येषामर्थे काङ्क्षितं नो राज्यं भोगाः सुखानि च

    yuddhe — for battle

    Those for whose sake we would want a kingdom, and pleasures, and happiness — they are the ones standing here, ready to give up their lives and their wealth:

    स्वधर्ममपि चावेक्ष्य न विकम्पितुमर्हसि

    yuddhāt — than fighting

    And considering your own duty, you should not waver. For a warrior there is nothing better than a rightful fight.

    हतो वा प्राप्स्यसि स्वर्गं जित्वा वा भोक्ष्यसे महीम्

    Killed, you gain the higher world; victorious, you enjoy the earth. So stand up, son of Kunti, and resolve to fight.

    Treating pleasure and pain alike, gain and loss, victory and defeat — then engage in the fight, and you take on no wrong.
