    एतान्न हन्तुमिच्छामि घ्नतोऽपि मधुसूदन

    trai-lokya-rājyasya — dominion over three worlds

    I do not wish to kill them, Krishna, even if they kill me — not for dominion over the three worlds, let alone for the earth.

    त्रैगुण्यविषया वेदा निस्त्रैगुण्यो भवार्जुन

    trai-guṇya — of the three modes of material nature

    The scriptures deal with the three strands of nature. Rise above them, Arjuna: free of opposites, steady in what is true, without acquiring, established in yourself.

    त्रैविद्या मां सोमपाः पूतपापा यज्ञैरिष्ट्वा स्वर्गतिं प्रार्थयन्ते

    trai-vidyāḥ — the science of karm kāṇḍ (Vedic Rituals)

    Knowers of the three Vedas, drinkers of soma, purified of fault, worshipping me by offerings, ask for the way to heaven — and reaching the world of the gods, they enjoy its pleasures.
