2.45 Rise above the three Krishna speaks

trai-guṇya-viṣhayā vedā nistrai-guṇyo bhavārjuna
nirdvandvo nitya-sattva-stho niryoga-kṣhema ātmavān

The scriptures deal with the three strands of nature. Rise above them, Arjuna: free of opposites, steady in what is true, without acquiring, established in yourself.

Explanation

Rise above the three.

The scriptures deal with the three strands of nature — go past them. Free of opposites, steady in what is true, without acquiring.

It is chapter 14's whole conclusion stated in one line, twelve chapters early. And nirdvandvaḥ, free of the pairs, is the condition every later portrait of the free person repeats.
