  1. 8.17

    सहस्रयुगपर्यन्तमहर्यद्ब्रह्मणो विदुः

    sahasra — one thousand

    Those who know that a thousand ages make one day of Brahma, and a thousand ages his night, know day and night.

    दिवि सूर्यसहस्रस्य भवेद्युगपदुत्थिता

    sahasrasya — thousand

    If a thousand suns were to rise together in the sky, that light might be something like the splendour of that great being.

    वायुर्यमोऽग्निर्वरुणः शशाङ्कः प्रजापतिस्त्वं प्रपितामहश्च

    sahasra-kṛitvaḥ — a thousand times

    You are the wind, death, fire, the waters, the moon, the lord of creatures, and the great-grandfather. I bow to you a thousand times, and again, and again I bow.

    किरीटिनं गदिनं चक्रहस्त मिच्छामि त्वां द्रष्टुमहं तथैव

    sahasra-bāho — thousand-armed one

    I wish to see you as before — crowned, bearing the club, the disc in your hand. Take on that four-armed form, thousand-armed one of universal form.
