11.39 A thousand times I bow Arjuna speaks
vāyur yamo ’gnir varuṇaḥ śhaśhāṅkaḥ
prajāpatis tvaṁ prapitāmahaśh cha
namo namas te ’stu sahasra-kṛitvaḥ
punaśh cha bhūyo ’pi namo namas te
You are the wind, death, fire, the waters, the moon, the lord of creatures, and the great-grandfather. I bow to you a thousand times, and again, and again I bow.
Explanation
Wind, death, fire, water, moon.
The lord of creatures, the great-grandfather — and then: I bow to you a thousand times, and again, and again I bow.
The repetition is not rhetorical filler. It is what someone does when they have run out of things to say and cannot stop, and the text lets it run.
