    कृपया परयाऽऽविष्टो विषीदन्निदमब्रवीत्

    imam — these

    Seeing my own people standing here, Krishna, wanting to fight — my limbs give way, and my mouth goes dry.

    अथ चैत्त्वमिमं धर्म्यं संग्रामं न करिष्यसि

    imam — this

    But if you will not fight this rightful battle, you abandon your own duty and your good name, and you take on the wrong instead.

  3. 4.1

    इमं विवस्वते योगं प्रोक्तवानहमव्ययम्

    imam — this

    I taught this imperishable yoga to Vivasvan; Vivasvan taught it to Manu; and Manu to Ikshvaku.

    एवं परम्पराप्राप्तमिमं राजर्षयो विदुः

    So it was received, handed from one to the next, and the royal sages knew it. But with the long passage of time, that yoga was lost in this world.

    प्रकृतिं स्वामवष्टभ्य विसृजामि पुनः पुनः

    Presiding over my own nature, I bring forth this whole multitude of beings again and again, helplessly, by the working of that nature.

    किं पुनर्ब्राह्मणाः पुण्या भक्ता राजर्षयस्तथा

    How much more, then, the holy brahmins and the royal sages who are devoted. Having come into this impermanent and joyless world, be devoted to me.

    यथा प्रकाशयत्येकः कृत्स्नं लोकमिमं रविः

    As one sun lights up this whole world, so the owner of the field lights up the whole field, Arjuna.

    Even the food each person likes is of three kinds — and so are offering, austerity and giving. Hear how they differ.

    And one who studies this dialogue of ours, which is holy, worships me by the offering of knowledge. This is my view.

    So I have heard this wonderful dialogue between Krishna and the great-souled Arjuna, and my hair stands on end.

    O king, recalling again and again this wonderful and holy dialogue between Krishna and Arjuna, I rejoice again and again.
