5.26 Peace near on every side Krishna speaks
कामक्रोधवियुक्तानां यतीनां यतचेतसाम्
अभितो ब्रह्मनिर्वाणं वर्तते विदितात्मनाम्
kāma-krodha-viyuktānāṁ yatīnāṁ yata-chetasām
abhito brahma-nirvāṇaṁ vartate viditātmanām
For those freed of desire and anger, restrained in mind, self-governed, the peace of Brahman is near on every side.
Explanation
Near on every side.
For those free of desire and anger, restrained and self-governed, the peace of Brahman is abhitaḥ — close by, all around.
Not ahead. The spatial word is doing the work: peace is not at the end of the road, it is adjacent everywhere, and what changes is proximity rather than position.
