5.17 Turned entirely there Krishna speaks

तद्बुद्धयस्तदात्मानस्तन्निष्ठास्तत्परायणाः
गच्छन्त्यपुनरावृत्तिं ज्ञाननिर्धूतकल्मषाः

tad-buddhayas tad-ātmānas tan-niṣhṭhās tat-parāyaṇāḥ
gachchhantyapunar-āvṛittiṁ jñāna-nirdhūta-kalmaṣhāḥ

With understanding turned there, self given there, established there, intent on that — they go where there is no returning, their faults washed away by knowledge.

Explanation

Four times over, the same word: there.

Understanding turned there, self given there, established there, intent on that. The repetition is the verse's whole method.

And the result is put as washing rather than as reward — faults washed away by knowledge. The Gita's language for liberation is more often cleaning than earning.
