17.10 Stale and left over Krishna speaks
यातयामं गतरसं पूति पर्युषितं च यत्
उच्छिष्टमपि चामेध्यं भोजनं तामसप्रियम्
yāta-yāmaṁ gata-rasaṁ pūti paryuṣhitaṁ cha yat
uchchhiṣhṭam api chāmedhyaṁ bhojanaṁ tāmasa-priyam
Food that is stale, tasteless, putrid, spoiled, left over and unclean is dear to those of inertia.
Explanation
Stale, spoiled, left over.
The shortest of the three and the least surprising. Food of inertia is food that has stopped being food.
Consistent with 14.8: inertia binds by heedlessness. This is not a diet chosen, it is what happens when nothing is chosen.
