कर्मणः सुकृतस्याहुः सात्त्विकं निर्मलं फलम्

The fruit of good action is said to be spotless and of the nature of clarity; the fruit of restlessness is pain; and the fruit of inertia is unknowing.

आयुःसत्त्वबलारोग्यसुखप्रीतिविवर्धनाः

sāttvika-priyāḥ — dear to those in the mode of goodness

Foods that increase life, clarity, strength, health, ease and satisfaction — juicy, rich, nourishing and pleasing — are dear to those of clarity.

श्रद्धया परया तप्तं तपस्तत्ित्रविधं नरैः

sāttvikam — in the mode of goodness

This threefold austerity, practised with the highest faith by those who seek no fruit and are steady, is said to be of clarity.

दातव्यमिति यद्दानं दीयतेऽनुपकारिणे

sāttvikam — in the mode of goodness

A gift given because it should be given, to one who cannot return it, in the right place and at the right time and to a worthy person, is held to be of clarity.

सर्वभूतेषु येनैकं भावमव्ययमीक्षते

sāttvikam — in the mode of goodness

That knowledge by which one sees one imperishable nature in all beings, undivided in the divided, is of clarity.

नियतं सङ्गरहितमरागद्वेषतः कृतम्

Action that is required, done without attachment, without craving or aversion, by one who does not seek its fruit, is said to be of clarity.

सुखं त्विदानीं त्रिविधं श्रृणु मे भरतर्षभ

sāttvikam — in the mode of goodness

Now hear from me of the three kinds of happiness, best of the Bharatas.

यत्तदग्रे विषमिव परिणामेऽमृतोपमम्

sāttvikam — in the mode of goodness

That which is like poison at first and like nectar in the end, born of the clarity of self-knowledge, is happiness of clarity.
