sāttvikaḥ

ये चैव सात्त्विका भावा राजसास्तामसाश्च ये

sāttvikāḥ — in the mode of goodness

Whatever states arise from clarity, from restlessness, or from inertia — know that they come from me. I am not in them; they are in me.

यजन्ते सात्त्विका देवान्यक्षरक्षांसि राजसाः

sāttvikāḥ — those in the mode of goodness

Those of clarity worship the gods; those of restlessness, the powers of wealth and force; and those of inertia worship ghosts and the hosts of spirits.

अफलाकाङ्क्षिभिर्यज्ञो विधिदृष्टो य इज्यते

sāttvikaḥ — of the nature of goodness

An offering made as the scriptures direct, by those who want no fruit from it, holding only that it is to be done, is of clarity.

कार्यमित्येव यत्कर्म नियतं क्रियतेऽर्जुन

sāttvikaḥ — in the mode of goodness

But one who does the action that falls to them because it is to be done, having let go of attachment and of its fruit — that letting go is of clarity.

मुक्तसङ्गोऽनहंवादी धृत्युत्साहसमन्वितः

sāttvikaḥ — in the mode of goodness

A doer free of attachment, who does not speak of themselves, filled with resolve and vigour, unmoved in success and failure, is said to be of clarity.
