    संन्यासः कर्मयोगश्च निःश्रेयसकरावुभौ

    sanyāsaḥ — renunciation

    Both renunciation and the yoga of action lead to the highest. But of the two, the yoga of action is the better.

    संन्यासस्तु महाबाहो दुःखमाप्तुमयोगतः

    sanyāsaḥ — renunciation

    But renunciation is hard to reach without yoga, mighty-armed one. The sage joined to yoga comes to Brahman before long.

    नियतस्य तु संन्यासः कर्मणो नोपपद्यते

    sanyāsaḥ — renunciation

    Renouncing the action that falls to you is not right. Giving it up out of delusion is said to be of inertia.

  4. 18.49

    असक्तबुद्धिः सर्वत्र जितात्मा विगतस्पृहः

    sanyāsena — by the practice of renunciation

    One whose understanding is unattached everywhere, who has mastered themselves and is free of longing, reaches by renunciation the highest state beyond action.
