Austerity performed for the sake of respect, honour and reverence, and with show, is said here to be of restlessness — unsteady and impermanent.

मूढग्राहेणात्मनो यत्पीडया क्रियते तपः

Austerity performed out of confused notions, with self-torture, or in order to ruin another, is said to be of inertia.

कार्यमित्येव यत्कर्म नियतं क्रियतेऽर्जुन

But one who does the action that falls to them because it is to be done, having let go of attachment and of its fruit — that letting go is of clarity.
