न हि कश्िचत्क्षणमपि जातु तिष्ठत्यकर्मकृत्
guṇaiḥ — by the qualities
No one can stay for even a moment without acting. Everyone is made to act by the strands of nature, whether they will it or not.
- 3.27
प्रकृतेः क्रियमाणानि गुणैः कर्माणि सर्वशः
guṇaiḥ — by the three modes
All actions are carried out by the strands of nature. But one deluded by the sense of self thinks: I am the doer.
- 13.24
य एवं वेत्ति पुरुषं प्रकृतिं च गुणैःसह
guṇaiḥ — the three modes of nature
One who thus knows the person and nature together with the strands is not born again, however they live.
- 14.23
उदासीनवदासीनो गुणैर्यो न विचाल्यते
guṇaiḥ — to the modes of material nature
who sits as if indifferent, unmoved by the strands, thinking “the strands are working”, and does not stir;

न तदस्ति पृथिव्यां वा दिवि देवेषु वा पुनः
guṇaiḥ — modes of material nature
There is no being on earth, nor among the gods in heaven, that is free from these three strands born of nature.
