9.31 Never lost Krishna speaks
क्षिप्रं भवति धर्मात्मा शश्वच्छान्तिं निगच्छति
कौन्तेय प्रतिजानीहि न मे भक्तः प्रणश्यति
kṣhipraṁ bhavati dharmātmā śhaśhvach-chhāntiṁ nigachchhati
kaunteya pratijānīhi na me bhaktaḥ praṇaśhyati
Such a person quickly becomes upright and reaches lasting peace. Be certain of this, son of Kunti: one devoted to me is never lost.
Explanation
And then the improvement follows, in that order.
Such a person quickly becomes upright and reaches lasting peace. Be certain of this — one devoted to him is never lost.
The sequence is what matters. Conduct is the consequence of the turn, not its entry requirement, which is the opposite of how the promise is usually understood.
