9.2 King of knowledge, easy to practise Krishna speaks

राजविद्या राजगुह्यं पवित्रमिदमुत्तमम्
प्रत्यक्षावगमं धर्म्यं सुसुखं कर्तुमव्ययम्

rāja-vidyā rāja-guhyaṁ pavitram idam uttamam
pratyakṣhāvagamaṁ dharmyaṁ su-sukhaṁ kartum avyayam

This is the king of knowledge, the king of secrets, the highest purifier. It can be known directly, it accords with what is right, it is easy to practise and it does not perish.

Explanation

Five claims, and the last two are the surprising ones.

  • rāja-vidyā — the king of knowledges
  • the highest purifier
  • directly knowable
  • accords with what is right
  • easy to practise, and imperishable

The king of secrets is advertised as su-sukham kartum — pleasant to do. Chapter 6 asked for a great deal; this one insists on how little it needs.
