6.46 Greater than the ascetic Krishna speaks

तपस्विभ्योऽधिको योगी ज्ञानिभ्योऽपि मतोऽधिकः
कर्मिभ्यश्चाधिको योगी तस्माद्योगी भवार्जुन

tapasvibhyo ’dhiko yogī
jñānibhyo ’pi mato ’dhikaḥ
karmibhyaśh chādhiko yogī
tasmād yogī bhavārjuna

The practitioner is greater than the ascetic, greater than the learned, and greater than those who perform rites. So become one who practises, Arjuna.

Explanation

Greater than the ascetic, the learned, and those who perform the rites.

Three respected kinds of religious life ranked below the practitioner — and then: so become one who practises, Arjuna.

The imperative is the chapter's whole point. After all the theory and all the consolation, what he is told is to do it.
