6.20 Seeing the self by the self Krishna speaks

यत्रोपरमते चित्तं निरुद्धं योगसेवया
यत्र चैवात्मनाऽऽत्मानं पश्यन्नात्मनि तुष्यति

yatroparamate chittaṁ niruddhaṁ yoga-sevayā
yatra chaivātmanātmānaṁ paśhyann ātmani tuṣhyati

Where the mind, restrained by the practice of yoga, comes to rest; where, seeing the self by the self, one is content in the self;

Explanation

Seeing the self by the self.

Where the mind comes to rest, restrained by practice — and where, seeing the self by the self, one is content in the self.

The first of four verses that are one long sentence, and 6.23 completes it. What is being described is a place rather than an event: where the mind ends up, not what happens to it.
