6.2 Renunciation is yoga Krishna speaks
यं संन्यासमिति प्राहुर्योगं तं विद्धि पाण्डव
न ह्यसंन्यस्तसङ्कल्पो योगी भवति कश्चन
yaṁ sannyāsam iti prāhur yogaṁ taṁ viddhi pāṇḍava
na hyasannyasta-saṅkalpo yogī bhavati kaśhchana
Know that what they call renunciation is yoga, son of Pandu. No one becomes a practitioner without giving up the intention behind the act.
Explanation
They are the same thing, and here is the hinge.
No one becomes a practitioner without giving up saṅkalpa — the intention, the plan, the mental act of settling what an action is for.
That is what makes renunciation and yoga one word. What gets renounced is not the activity but the designing of it, which you can do while sitting still or while fighting.
