4.26 The senses into restraint Krishna speaks
श्रोत्रादीनीन्द्रियाण्यन्ये संयमाग्निषु जुह्वति
शब्दादीन्विषयानन्य इन्द्रियाग्निषु जुह्वति
śhrotrādīnīndriyāṇyanye sanyamāgniṣhu juhvati
śhabdādīn viṣhayānanya indriyāgniṣhu juhvati
Some offer hearing and the other senses into the fire of restraint; others offer sound and the other objects of sense into the fire of the senses.
Explanation
The senses into restraint, or the objects into the senses.
Two directions, both described as offerings: hearing given up into discipline, or sound given into hearing.
The second is the surprising one. Letting the senses have their objects is on the list of sacrifices, provided it is done as one.
