3.41 Master the senses first Krishna speaks
तस्मात्त्वमिन्द्रियाण्यादौ नियम्य भरतर्षभ
पाप्मानं प्रजहि ह्येनं ज्ञानविज्ञाननाशनम्
tasmāt tvam indriyāṇyādau niyamya bharatarṣhabha
pāpmānaṁ prajahi hyenaṁ jñāna-vijñāna-nāśhanam
Therefore master the senses first, best of the Bharatas, and then strike down this destroyer of knowledge and discernment.

The order is the advice. Desire is not to be reasoned with while it still has the senses — the outermost of its three dwellings is the only one you can reach directly.
