3.28 Strands acting on strands Krishna speaks
तत्त्ववित्तु महाबाहो गुणकर्मविभागयोः
गुणा गुणेषु वर्तन्त इति मत्वा न सज्जते
tattva-vit tu mahā-bāho guṇa-karma-vibhāgayoḥ
guṇā guṇeṣhu vartanta iti matvā na sajjate
One who knows the truth about the strands and their workings, mighty-armed one — knowing that it is the strands acting upon the strands — is not caught.
Explanation
Strands acting on strands.
One who knows the truth about the strands and their workings — guṇā guṇeṣu vartante — is not caught.
The phrase is almost exactly 14.23's the strands are working. What frees is not a different action but a correct attribution of the one already happening.
