3.17 Nothing that must be done Krishna speaks

यस्त्वात्मरतिरेव स्यादात्मतृप्तश्च मानवः
आत्मन्येव च सन्तुष्टस्तस्य कार्यं न विद्यते

yas tvātma-ratir eva syād ātma-tṛiptaśh cha mānavaḥ
ātmanyeva cha santuṣhṭas tasya kāryaṁ na vidyate

But the one who takes delight in the self, content in the self, satisfied in the self alone — for that one there is nothing that must be done.

Explanation

And then the exception, granted plainly.

For the one who takes delight in the self, content and satisfied in the self alone — there is nothing that must be done.

Having spent eight verses making the case that everyone must act, the chapter concedes there is a state in which the obligation lapses. It just does not think Arjuna is in it.
