2.8 Not even a kingdom would help Arjuna speaks
न हि प्रपश्यामि ममापनुद्या द्यच्छोकमुच्छोषणमिन्द्रियाणाम्
अवाप्य भूमावसपत्नमृद्धम् राज्यं सुराणामपि चाधिपत्यम्
na hi prapaśhyāmi mamāpanudyād
yach-chhokam uchchhoṣhaṇam-indriyāṇām
avāpya bhūmāv-asapatnamṛiddhaṁ
rājyaṁ surāṇāmapi chādhipatyam
I cannot see what would drive off this grief that is drying up my senses — not if I won an unrivalled kingdom on earth, or lordship over the gods themselves.
Explanation
Not even a kingdom would drive it off.
Not an unrivalled kingdom on earth, not lordship over the gods — nothing he can name would shift the grief drying up his senses.
The list is his own from 1.32, restated. He is telling Krishna in advance that the answer cannot be a better prize, and Krishna will try that anyway at 2.37.
