2.44 No stillness settles Krishna speaks
भोगैश्वर्यप्रसक्तानां तयापहृतचेतसाम्
व्यवसायात्मिका बुद्धिः समाधौ न विधीयते
bhogaiśwvarya-prasaktānāṁ tayāpahṛita-chetasām
vyavasāyātmikā buddhiḥ samādhau na vidhīyate
For those attached to enjoyment and power, whose minds are carried off by such talk, no resolute understanding settles into stillness.
Explanation
No stillness settles.
For those attached to enjoyment and power, whose minds are carried off by such talk, no resolute understanding samādhau — settles into stillness.
The consequence is not punishment. It is simply that a mind organised around acquisition cannot do the one thing the chapter is about: come to rest.
