2.23 Weapons do not cut it Krishna speaks
नैनं छिन्दन्ति शस्त्राणि नैनं दहति पावकः
न चैनं क्लेदयन्त्यापो न शोषयति मारुतः
nainaṁ chhindanti śhastrāṇi nainaṁ dahati pāvakaḥ
na chainaṁ kledayantyāpo na śhoṣhayati mārutaḥ
Weapons do not cut it, fire does not burn it, water does not wet it, wind does not dry it.
Explanation
Weapons do not cut it.
Fire does not burn it, water does not wet it, wind does not dry it — the four elements, each refused.
Arjuna is holding a weapon. The first item in the list is the one he was about to use, and the verse begins by telling him it does not reach anything.
