16.4 Six words for the other Krishna speaks

दम्भो दर्पोऽभिमानश्च क्रोधः पारुष्यमेव च
अज्ञानं चाभिजातस्य पार्थ सम्पदमासुरीम्

dambho darpo ’bhimānaśh cha krodhaḥ pāruṣhyam eva cha
ajñānaṁ chābhijātasya pārtha sampadam āsurīm

Pretence, arrogance, conceit, anger, harshness and ignorance belong to one born to the other nature, Arjuna.

Explanation

Six words against twenty-six.

Pretence, arrogance, conceit, anger, harshness, ignorance. The other nature gets a quarter of the space and none of the elaboration.

The asymmetry is worth registering before the twelve verses that follow, which are vivid and unsparing. The definition is brief; the portrait is not.
