15.4 Then look for the root Krishna speaks

ततः पदं तत्परिमार्गितव्य यस्मिन्गता न निवर्तन्ति भूयः
तमेव चाद्यं पुरुषं प्रपद्ये यतः प्रवृत्तिः प्रसृता पुराणी

tataḥ padaṁ tat parimārgitavyaṁ
yasmin gatā na nivartanti bhūyaḥ
tam eva chādyaṁ puruṣhaṁ prapadye
yataḥ pravṛittiḥ prasṛitā purāṇī

one should then seek out that place from which, having gone, none return — and take refuge in the primal person from whom this whole unfolding came.

Explanation

Cutting is only the first half of the instruction.

Then seek the place from which none return, and take refuge in the puruṣa from whom the whole unfolding came.

Worth noticing against how this chapter is usually summarised: what is asked for is not renunciation of the world but relocation of the root. The tree is cut in order to arrive at what it was growing out of.
