12.7 Lifted out, and soon Krishna speaks
तेषामहं समुद्धर्ता मृत्युसंसारसागरात्
भवामि नचिरात्पार्थ मय्यावेशितचेतसाम्
teṣhām ahaṁ samuddhartā mṛityu-saṁsāra-sāgarāt
bhavāmi na chirāt pārtha mayy āveśhita-chetasām
for them, whose thought is on me, I am soon the one who lifts them out of the ocean of death and rebirth.
Explanation
Lifted out — and the timing is the striking part.
samuddhartā, one who lifts out; nacirāt, before long. The ocean is saṁsāra, the round of death and birth the last chapter measured in ages of Brahma.
Against that scale, soon is a remarkable word. Chapter 8 made liberation a matter of cosmic time; this chapter says it is a matter of where the mind is pointed, and can happen quickly.
