11.29 As moths into a flame Arjuna speaks

यथा प्रदीप्तं ज्वलनं पतङ्गा विशन्ति नाशाय समृद्धवेगाः
तथैव नाशाय विशन्ति लोका स्तवापि वक्त्राणि समृद्धवेगाः

yathā pradīptaṁ jvalanaṁ pataṅgā
viśhanti nāśhāya samṛiddha-vegāḥ
tathaiva nāśhāya viśhanti lokās
tavāpi vaktrāṇi samṛiddha-vegāḥ

As moths fly into a burning flame and perish, so these worlds rush into your mouths and perish.

Explanation

As moths into a flame.

And the second simile takes the gentleness back: moths perish, and they fly in because the fire attracts them.

Read together with 11.28, the pair says both things — that this is where they were always going, and that they are going in stupidly.
