11.17 Hard to look at Arjuna speaks

kirīṭinaṁ gadinaṁ chakriṇaṁ cha
tejo-rāśhiṁ sarvato dīptimantam
paśhyāmi tvāṁ durnirīkṣhyaṁ samantād
dīptānalārka-dyutim aprameyam

I see you crowned, bearing club and disc, a mass of light blazing everywhere — hard to look at, radiant on all sides as burning fire and sun, immeasurable.

Explanation

Hard to look at.

durnirīkṣyam — difficult to see, painful to face. Crowned, bearing club and disc, blazing on all sides.

The first admission of distress, and it is buried in a verse of praise. From here the praise and the difficulty are the same sentences.
