10.5 The states of beings Krishna speaks

अहिंसा समता तुष्टिस्तपो दानं यशोऽयशः
भवन्ति भावा भूतानां मत्त एव पृथग्विधाः

ahiṁsā samatā tuṣṭis tapo dānaṁ yaśo 'yaśaḥ bhavanti bhāvā bhūtānāṁ matta eva pṛthag-vidhāḥ

harmlessness, evenness, contentment, austerity, giving, honour and dishonour — the states of beings arise from me alone, in all their variety.

Explanation

The states of beings arise from me alone.

Harmlessness, evenness, contentment, austerity, giving — and honour and dishonour.

Set against 7.12 — they are in me; I am not in them — the claim is careful. These states come from him and do not constitute him, which is what lets the list include its own opposites.
