10.26 The sacred fig Krishna speaks
अश्वत्थः सर्ववृक्षाणां देवर्षीणां च नारदः
गन्धर्वाणां चित्ररथः सिद्धानां कपिलो मुनिः
aśhvatthaḥ sarva-vṛikṣhāṇāṁ devarṣhīṇāṁ cha nāradaḥ
gandharvāṇāṁ chitrarathaḥ siddhānāṁ kapilo muniḥ
Among all trees I am the sacred fig; among divine seers, Narada; among the heavenly singers, Chitraratha; and among the perfected, the sage Kapila.
Explanation
The sacred fig, and three names.
The aśvattha among trees, Narada among divine seers, Chitraratha among heavenly singers, Kapila among the perfected.
The fig is the tree chapter 15 will invert and tell Arjuna to cut. Here it is simply the best of trees, which is worth remembering when the axe arrives.
