1.3 Arrayed by your own pupil Sanjaya speaks

पश्यैतां पाण्डुपुत्राणामाचार्य महतीं चमूम्
व्यूढां द्रुपदपुत्रेण तव शिष्येण धीमता

paśhyaitāṁ pāṇḍu-putrāṇām āchārya mahatīṁ chamūm
vyūḍhāṁ drupada-putreṇa tava śhiṣhyeṇa dhīmatā

Look, teacher, at this mighty army of the sons of Pandu, arrayed by your own gifted pupil, the son of Drupada.

Explanation

The barb is deliberate, and it lands on his own side.

The Pandava army has been arrayed by your own gifted pupil — Drupada's son, whom Drona trained.

Duryodhana is reminding his commander that the enemy's tactics came out of his own teaching. It is a strange thing to say to the man you need, and it is the first crack in the confident tone.
