1.20 Arjuna raises his bow Sanjaya speaks

अथ व्यवस्थितान् दृष्ट्वा धार्तराष्ट्रान्कपिध्वजः
प्रवृत्ते शस्त्रसंपाते धनुरुद्यम्य पाण्डवः

atha vyavasthitān dṛiṣhṭvā dhārtarāṣhṭrān kapi-dhwajaḥ
pravṛitte śhastra-sampāte dhanurudyamya pāṇḍavaḥ
hṛiṣhīkeśhaṁ tadā vākyam idam āha mahī-pate

Then, seeing Dhritarashtra's sons arrayed and the weapons about to fall, Arjuna — whose banner bears the monkey — raised his bow and spoke to Krishna.

Explanation

Arjuna raises his bow — and speaks.

Seeing the ranks arrayed and the weapons about to fall, the man whose banner bears the monkey lifts his weapon.

Note the order of what follows. He raises the bow first. Nothing about him at this moment is reluctant; the reluctance arrives only after he looks.
