काममाश्रित्य दुष्पूरं दम्भमानमदान्विताः
mada-anvitāḥ — clinging to false tenets
Given over to insatiable desire, full of pretence, arrogance and intoxication, in delusion they take up false aims and act on impure resolves.
- 16.17
आत्मसम्भाविताः स्तब्धा धनमानमदान्विताः
mada — arrogance
Self-important, stubborn, full of the pride of wealth, they make offerings in name only, for show, and not as the scriptures direct.
- 18.35
यया स्वप्नं भयं शोकं विषादं मदमेव च
madam — conceit
And the steadiness by which the dull do not let go of sleep, fear, grief, despair and conceit is of inertia.
