8.22 Devotion with no rival Krishna speaks

पुरुषः स परः पार्थ भक्त्या लभ्यस्त्वनन्यया
यस्यान्तःस्थानि भूतानि येन सर्वमिदं ततम्

puruṣhaḥ sa paraḥ pārtha bhaktyā labhyas tvananyayā
yasyāntaḥ-sthāni bhūtāni yena sarvam idaṁ tatam

That highest person, son of Pritha, is reached by devotion to nothing else — he in whom all beings rest, and by whom all this is pervaded.

Explanation

Reached by devotion to nothing else.

bhaktyā labhyaḥ — obtained by devotion; ananyayā — with no other alongside. After twenty verses of cosmology and technique, the operative word is devotion, and the qualifier does the work: not devotion more than other things, but devotion with no rival.

The same verse says all beings rest in him and everything is pervaded by him. So what is asked for is not exclusivity toward a portion of the world. It is undivided attention to what the whole of it already is.
