8.20 What the night does not reach Krishna speaks

परस्तस्मात्तु भावोऽन्योऽव्यक्तोऽव्यक्तात्सनातनः
यः स सर्वेषु भूतेषु नश्यत्सु न विनश्यति

paras tasmāt tu bhāvo ’nyo ’vyakto ’vyaktāt sanātanaḥ
yaḥ sa sarveṣhu bhūteṣhu naśhyatsu na vinaśhyati

But beyond that unmanifest is another, higher, eternal and unmanifest, which does not perish when all beings perish.

Explanation

Beyond the unmanifest, another unmanifest.

Higher, eternal, and not destroyed when all beings are destroyed. The distinction is easy to read past, and the chapter turns on it.

There are two things here that cannot be seen: the latent state the universe folds into between cycles, and something that is not part of the cycle at all. They are not the same, and only the second is what any of the practice has been aiming at.
