8.16 Even heaven sends you back Krishna speaks
आब्रह्मभुवनाल्लोकाः पुनरावर्तिनोऽर्जुन
मामुपेत्य तु कौन्तेय पुनर्जन्म न विद्यते
ā-brahma-bhuvanāl lokāḥ punar āvartino ’rjuna
mām upetya tu kaunteya punar janma na vidyate
All worlds up to the world of Brahma return again, Arjuna. But having come to me, son of Kunti, there is no rebirth.
Explanation
Even the highest heaven returns you.
ābrahma-bhuvanāt — up to the world of Brahma. The most exalted destination reachable by merit is still inside the cycle.
This is a deliberate demotion of everything the tradition offered as a reward. Reaching a better world is not the goal, because better worlds end. The chapter is drawing a line between going somewhere good and going past the mechanism that makes places come and go at all.
