8.10 Prepared for, not improvised Krishna speaks

प्रयाणकाले मनसाऽचलेन भक्त्या युक्तो योगबलेन चैव
भ्रुवोर्मध्ये प्राणमावेश्य सम्यक् स तं परं पुरुषमुपैति दिव्यम्

prayāṇa-kāle manasāchalena
bhaktyā yukto yoga-balena chaiva
bhruvor madhye prāṇam āveśhya samyak
sa taṁ paraṁ puruṣham upaiti divyam

at the hour of departure, with a still mind, joined by devotion and the strength of practice, drawing the breath up between the brows, reaches that highest divine person.

Explanation

The final moment is prepared for, not improvised.

The description is technical — a still mind, devotion, the strength of practice, the breath drawn up between the brows. This is yogic method, stated without elaboration.

What matters for the argument is the word practice appearing again. Every verse in this stretch ties the hour of death to something built beforehand. It is where the training shows, not where it happens.
