3.13 Cooking only for yourself Krishna speaks
यज्ञशिष्टाशिनः सन्तो मुच्यन्ते सर्वकिल्बिषैः
भुञ्जते ते त्वघं पापा ये पचन्त्यात्मकारणात्
yajña-śhiṣhṭāśhinaḥ santo muchyante sarva-kilbiṣhaiḥ
bhuñjate te tvaghaṁ pāpā ye pachantyātma-kāraṇāt
The good, who eat what is left after the offering, are released from every fault. Those who cook only for themselves eat their own wrongdoing.
Explanation
Those who cook only for themselves.
They eat their own wrongdoing. And the good, who eat what is left after the offering, are released from every fault.
The image is domestic and completely concrete. Whatever the metaphysics, the test the verse offers is who else is at the table.
