2.57 Neither delighting nor recoiling Krishna speaks
यः सर्वत्रानभिस्नेहस्तत्तत्प्राप्य शुभाशुभम्
नाभिनन्दति न द्वेष्टि तस्य प्रज्ञा प्रतिष्ठिता
yaḥ sarvatrānabhisnehas tat tat prāpya śhubhāśhubham
nābhinandati na dveṣhṭi tasya prajñā pratiṣhṭhitā
Unattached everywhere, meeting good and bad alike, neither delighting nor recoiling — in such a person wisdom is firmly established.
Explanation
Neither delighting nor recoiling.
Meeting good and bad alike — śubhāśubham.
The pair is uncomfortable in a way the others are not. Evenness about pleasure and pain is one thing; evenness about good and bad is a claim the Gita will spend chapters 16 and 17 complicating.
