18.21 Knowledge that sees separateness Krishna speaks

पृथक्त्वेन तु यज्ज्ञानं नानाभावान्पृथग्विधान्
वेत्ति सर्वेषु भूतेषु तज्ज्ञानं विद्धि राजसम्

pṛithaktvena tu yaj jñānaṁ nānā-bhāvān pṛithag-vidhān
vetti sarveṣhu bhūteṣhu taj jñānaṁ viddhi rājasam

But the knowledge which, seeing separateness, takes the many natures of beings to be distinct in kind, is of restlessness.

Explanation

Knowledge that sees separateness.

Taking the many natures of beings to be distinct in kind — of restlessness.

Note what is being graded down: not error but ordinary perception. Seeing people as genuinely different sorts of thing is the middle grade, which is where most of us live.
